About Us
The Nor*Cal Flying Tigers is a competetive basketball club currently fielding 3rd grade through varsity AAU Boys Basketball teams. Our focus is on advanced skills, learning, and love of the game. The instructional regimen includes sessions by local high school coaches, assistants, and former high school and college players with the aim of teaching kids the fundamentals of the game.

Our program has no geographic or school boundary restrictions, so your player can participate regardless of school affiliation or location. Our program is based in Lodi, California with players that have come from as far as Elk Grove, Galt, Linden, Acampo, Stockton, and Rio Vista.

The teams are mentored by volunteer coaches who are genuinely interested in furthering the skills of every player on the team and providing a truely developmental competitive program.

Available Programs
When new players join our program, they are assessed and then assigned to either (a) the Practice Squad, (b) the Developmental Squad, or (c) the Competitive Playing Squad. Player squad assignments change as they become more proficient with their skills, knowledge of our plays, and work ethic.

Allocation of Playing Time
Unlike recreational programs, there is no minimum play requirement in our basketball program. Playing time is determined by a players attendance at practices, attitude, and readiness. Playing time is entirely at the coach's discretion. Each player earns his playing time, it is not automatically granted. Some players may play more than others, due to their advanced skill level, committment, effort, attitude and/or performance that is demonstrated in practice and at games. It is our desire to play every kid on our team, but there are times when some players will not play as much as others.

Player and Fan Conduct
Parents and fans are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner. The focus of games are the kids in our program. If parents or fans make themselves the focus by becoming unruly or an unecessary distraction, the coaching staff will politely ask them to leave the practice or game facility. If there are recurring problems with certain parents or fans, it may result in their player being asked to leave the program.

Winning Isn't Everything, But It Sure Is Nice!
Our program's primary focus is DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG ATHELETES. Sometimes development gets in the way of winning, so we ask our parents and players to be patient and make winning our secondary objective so that we can develop quality young atheletes for the future. The Flying Tigers teach kids that there are many ways to define "winner", and it doesn't always begin and end with the scoreboard. Teaching them to love the game, and to "win" in many ways, help to develop a positive attitude within competetive sports. If you enjoy winning, you have to work hard. The Flying Tigers teach kids that "winning" is achieved only through hard work and selfless play.

It's Not The Time We Put In .. But What We Put Into Our Time
The team conducts weekly (and sometimes twice weekly) team practices in order to teach skills, keep the players in basketball shape, perform drills, learn plays, and scrimmage. The coaches provide guidance to help the kids learn to practice at home, on their own time, to better further their skills and learn the game of basketball. The coaches teach players how to work as a team, win as a team with class, and lose as a team with dignity. Players will participate in scrimmages, tournaments, and other competetive events in order to foster a love for the game and provide a forum in which kids can apply the skills they've learned and participate in a competetive environment.

The Family That Plays Together, Stays Together
To many kids, sports is more than just an activity - it is a social event. Active kids learn to interact with each other primarily through the extra-cirricular activities in which they participate. Helping kids learn through sports provides a fun, healthy, and spirited environment in which to learn valuable life lessons that create a more aware child, and ultimately, a better community.

We teach kids to have a positive attitude towards sports. Without this positive attitude, a player cannot be successful in our program.

Fitness Through Fun and Fundamentals
An active kid is a healthy kid. The Flying Tigers provide an active, athletic environment that helps kids avoid a sedative lifestyle and build a positive attitude towards physical fitness that, hopefully, will carry with them throughout their lives.

Love What You Do, and Do What You Love
When done correctly, coaching and teaching is fun. Instructing a kid, and then watching him or her actually EXECUTE a coaches instructions, is powerful and rewarding. The volunteers have fun when the kids have fun. The kids have fun when they learn, apply what they learn, and earn recognition for their achievements.
